Mourn with those that Mourn

from Death, Thou Shalt Die by Jacob T. Skeen

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

I can only describe it as a "Midnight Revival" that spans the bridge from the secular Saturday Night with its Devil's Music to the holy Sunday morning. It even comes with a hymn booklet with the lyrics of Jacob's testimony. For those unfamiliar, Skeen is a Salt Lake City one man band act. He was on his way to tour Italy before the Covid came down and destroyed his plans. Those who have seen him perform are probably familiar with his raw and loud sound. The album captures that but only more so. Far from a clean digital sound, the analogue recording has more in common with old punk records than most anything coming out today. If Jacob seeks to preach, it isn't in any holy temple. Like a true evangelical, he is bringing the good word directly to a sin filled underground of night clubs and juke joints. (John Whipple)

He plays ferociously, and has been relentlessly taking up stages around the valley, keeping up with his own fast guitar playing and steady kick-drumming, while a single cymbal shimmers in front of his jostling knees. ... more
